In 2005, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and the Embassy of France partnered to develop a cooperative educational program by signing Memoranda of Understanding between the State of Wisconsin and the French Académies of Aix-Marseille and Bordeaux.  The Memoranda of Understanding are paving the way for Wisconsin and French schools to form partnerships, engage in interdisciplinary projects, exchange pedagogical ideas, expand the international dimension in teaching, and provide enriching language-learning experiences for students.
